Top picks
Our rated kids paddles.
Star-rated on age fit, durability, affordability, safety, and fun factor, the things that actually matter for a kid's first paddle. Each opens to a full review.

Franklin's Forte Youth paddle, a real 10mm polypropylene-core kids paddle, USAPA approved, around US$18. Bright colors for engagement and a single-paddle price that beats most starter sets. The lowest-cost legitimate kids paddle from a known brand.

JOOLA's Essentials Dash, a real fiberglass-face all-ages paddle around US$25. USAP approved, NFC-tagged, and built sturdy enough to outlast the toy stage. The step up from the Franklin Forte Youth once a kid is rallying consistently.

JOOLA Essentials Dash bundled, 2 paddles, 4 balls, and a drawstring bag. The right gift for a family that wants everything in one box without picking parts. Effective per-paddle cost beats the single.

Selkirk's SLK Neo Graphite, a two-paddle adult set with graphite faces, 3 Hybrid+ balls, and a Selkirk sling bag. Step-up choice for older kids (10+) who've outgrown junior paddles and want a real graphite-face paddle the whole family can share.
Don't buy these
The kids gear that fails parents most often.
Three categories of paddle that show up in HK parent forums with broken-on-first-hit photos. We list them by name so you know what to skip.

Temu / AliExpress wood 'kids paddles'
Multiple reports of paddles snapping on the first hit. Wood is brittle, often unfinished. Cheap doesn't mean disposable, it means dangerous.

Random Amazon 'kids' paddles under HK$100
Cardboard core, glued laminate. They look like toys because they are. Save the money toward a real beginner paddle.

Adult paddles for under-8s
Even a 'light' adult paddle (7.6oz) is too heavy for a 6- or 7-year-old wrist. You'll see them choke up on the handle, swing flat, and quit because they can't control it.
FAQ
Common parent questions.
Do I really need to spend HK$300+ on a kids paddle?
Not for the first 5–10 sessions. Most beginner classes provide paddles. Buy after they've decided they want to keep playing, and start at the trial-tier (HK$200–250) before upgrading.
Are 'pickleball-specific' kids shoes worth it?
No. Tennis shoes are pickleball shoes, same lateral movement, same surface. Don't pay extra for the pickleball label.
What about used paddles?
Fine for kids, paddle face wear matters less at beginner level. Check for delamination (face peeling from core) and dead spots (sweet spot loses pop). Avoid used paddles older than 18 months.
Where do HK parents actually buy this stuff?
A few HK retailers carry the basics now. For specific paddles, most parents direct-ship from US (Pickleball Central, Amazon US), HK has lower customs friction than the rest of Asia. Vatic and Friday ship direct to HK without import duties on most orders.
